Privacy Policy

HomeTaxPro is operated by Home Tax Pro LLC. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Home Tax Pro LLC.

This policy explains what we collect, why, and who else sees it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate, because a policy nobody reads protects nobody.

What we collect

When you run a free scan

The property address you type. We use it to look up that property in county appraisal records and find comparable sales nearby. If you are not signed in, we ask for an email address before showing you the result.

When you create an account

Your email address, and a name if you give us one. Your password is stored only as a bcrypt hash, so we cannot read it, recover it, or tell you what it is. We also record whether you have verified your email, when you last signed in, and, if you arrived from a campaign link, the campaign source.

When you subscribe

We never see your card number. Payment happens on Stripe’s own hosted checkout page. Stripe sends us back a customer reference, your subscription status, and the billing period. Nothing else.

When you contact us

Your name, email address, what you chose as the topic, and the message you write. We keep these so we can answer you and see the history if you write again. We also record the IP address and browser the message came from, used only to investigate abuse of the form, never for analytics.

As you use the site

The properties you have scanned, the results we generated, and the documents we produced for you. We also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate.

Two things we deliberately do not send to Google Analytics: the tokens in password reset and email verification links, and your Stripe checkout session reference. Those are stripped from the URL before anything is sent.

Who else sees your data

We use a small number of services, and only for the purpose listed:

• Stripe processes payments and stores your card details.
• Anthropic receives property and comparable sales data when you run an AI analysis, so it can select comparables and draft your protest statement.
• SendGrid sends verification, password reset and notification emails.
• Google Maps resolves addresses and renders the map in your protest document.
• MongoDB Atlas hosts our database, and Render hosts the application.
• Google Analytics reports aggregate usage.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers, advertisers, or other homeowners.

Property records are public

Property assessments, ownership names and sale prices come from county appraisal districts and are public records. We did not create that data and we cannot correct it. If something in your county record is wrong, your appraisal district is the only place it can be fixed.

Cookies

When you sign in we set one cookie, htp_session. It holds a random session identifier, nothing about you, and it is marked HttpOnly so scripts cannot read it. It lasts 30 days and is deleted when you sign out. Google Analytics sets its own cookies for usage measurement.

How long we keep it

Account and property data is kept while your account is open. Scans and generated documents are kept so you can come back to them, including after a subscription ends, because a protest document you filed is a record you may need later.

Ask us to delete your account and we will, subject to records we are required to keep for tax and accounting purposes. Payment records live with Stripe under their own retention rules.

Your choices

• Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
• Ask us to delete your account.
• Opt out of non-essential email. Verification and billing emails are part of the service and cannot be switched off while your account is open.

Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Sessions are random 384-bit tokens stored server side, not signed data we hand you. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you promptly if we ever have reason to believe your data has been exposed.

Children

HomeTaxPro is for property owners and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will email you rather than rely on you noticing.
